Sebastopol, California, March 14, 2022 – Sebastopol’s Vive CPR, co-founded by paramedic and educator Aaron Bates, has been approved by the California Department of Public Health to join the state’s Naloxone Distribution Project.
Naloxone, also known as Narcan, is a lifesaving medication that can be administered during an opioid overdose to reverse the opioid’s deadly effects. Opioids, such as fentanyl, heroin, and prescription pain medications, contributed to over 75,000 deaths in the United Stated between April 2020 and April 2021, an increase in overdose deaths of over 25% from the previous calendar year.
The Naloxone Distribution Project aims to educate the public about the risks and signs of opioid overdose, and to provide this easy to use, lifesaving medication for free.
“I have seen the devastating effects of the opioid crisis in my community and throughout the San Francisco Bay Area communities I have worked in as a paramedic and firefighter. I can’t overstate how valuable public education and this simple treatment can be to help curb unnecessary deaths. While we may not be able to end this epidemic with education and access to proper treatment, we can undoubtedly save countless lives. We’re proud to be part of this program and look forward to continuing to serve our community”, says Bates.
Vive CPR will begin providing opioid overdose and Naloxone education, as well as distributing lifesaving Naloxone nasal spray starting in March 2022.
