London, U.K. – On a mission to help the people of his country of birth, Sierra Leone, Mahmoud Jalloh has set up a GoFundMe page for an ambitious project that, if successful, would have a lasting positive effect on the country’s economy. Jalloh wants to open a retail processed water business called the Sierra Commercial Water Project, which would serve Freetown, the capital city of Sierra Leone. Future expansion to other major cities across the country would also be in the works.

Living conditions in Sierra Leone are poor, with 70% of the population living below the poverty line. Safe drinking water is at a premium, since most people collect their water from contaminated sources which prove to be the source of many deadly diseases, infections and parasites. Although various governments and outside organizations have attempted to resolve the problem, it only seems to be getting worse.

“The situation is dire,” says Jalloh. “Statistics show that one out of every five children in Sierra Leone dies before their fifth birthday, many from water-related illnesses. The time to act is now.”

Jalloh explains that his initiative is part business, part humanitarian. The Sierra Commercial Water Project would not only provide safe drinking water, it would also provide much needed employment opportunities for the locals.

“Many of my family members are well-educated, but there are simply no jobs available,” he adds. “This business would make such a difference to so many lives.”

The campaign has a goal of £20,000. Jalloh will post photos and updates on a regular basis in the interest of complete transparency. He will also share the testimonies of all the lives this business has changed in many different ways, apart from employment alone.

“Any contribution, no matter how small, will be deeply appreciated,” adds Jalloh. “Please support our campaign and help me make a difference in these people’s lives!”
