Tampa, United States – December 3, 2019 —
Cutting-edge art organization Snap! Orlando is featured in the first volume of INNOVATE® ORLANDO, a premium coffee-table book and online experience that showcase the city’s most innovative organizations and people across industries. Snap! Orlando’s public installations and events challenge perceptions of what art can be, and through meaningful interaction, brings art in places they might least expect.
Snap! Orlando’s feature in INNOVATE® ORLANDO describes its award-winning ‘CITY unseen’ project as “A New [AR]t Experience,” inviting Orlando residents and visitors to experience the city through site-specific augmented reality public art installations. As a permanent and ongoing public art project, ‘CITY unseen’ renders art—and Orlando itself—more beautiful, and inclusive.
“The project enhances viewers’ perspectives on art, dimensional reality, and perception, adding another layer of cultural significance to the Downtown and Central Florida region,” Snap! Orlando’s feature reads. “It positions Orlando as a pioneer with a new vision for the fusion of art and technology in the 21st century and serves as a platform for discussion about social, cultural, and environmental issues affecting those around us.”
As part of INNOVATE® ORLANDO’s Future Cities & Community Development chapter, Snap! Orlando is highlighted in its role of bringing The City Beautiful into the future. The art organization also does so through year-round exhibitions in their two contemporary art galleries, with receptions, special events, notable speakers engagements, art procurement, and consulting services, youth programs, and more.
Since its founding in 2010, Snap! has exhibited the work of over 100 international photographers and multimedia artists, elevating Orlando in the process. Douglas Kirkland, Jerry Uelsmann, Roger Ballen, Jamel Shabazz, Cheyco Leidmann, Nancy Baker Cahill, Jeff Frost, Vicki DaSilva, Marpi, Nick Veasey, Oleg Dou, Szymon Brodziak, Billy & Hells, William John Kennedy, Tom Chambers, and Kristian Schuller are only a few of Snap!’s featured artists. SNAP! Orlando projects have been internationally recognized in the press by Wired Magazine, The New York Times, Huffington Post, Elle Magazine, the BBC, NPR, and locally editorial features include numerous cover stories in Orlando Weekly, Orlando Arts, Orlando Style, and Orlando Magazine. Its founders Patrick and Holly Kahn, were named among Orlando MagazineI’s 50 most Powerful in 2018 and 2019.
“[Snap!’s mission is] to boldly increase the visibility and appreciation of the photographic arts and digital medium as a significant cultural art form,” the organization’s feature continues. “Snap! has captured the interest and respect of artists, enthusiasts, and critics around the world.”
Snap!’s combination of tech-savvy and community development made it a strong candidate for inclusion in INNOVATE® ORLANDO. Participation in the book is by invitation or nomination only, ensuring that forerunners like Snap! receive the attention they deserve.
“Snap! is not just innovative; it’s plain awesome,” says Carel “Callie” Van Graan, COO for Global Village, who publish the INNOVATE® series. “INNOVATE® ORLANDO would not have been the same without them.”
