Freskos’ recent launch provides a fast food option for local customers that’s both authentically Greek in flavor and healthier than most other take-out style food, including a range of classic favorites such as gyro, as well as a selection of vegetarian and vegan choices.
Well-known across Connecticut for its delicious, fresh, and authentic Greek cuisine, Freskos has won a collection of awards since its first opening in 2016. Founded by entrepreneur Peter Vouras, many of the recipes on the Freskos menu have been developed by his family, who have a history of running successful restaurants in both his hometown of Meriden and in Hartford. Now, everything is made fresh in the restaurant each day, using traditional ingredients to create a real taste of Greece in the USA, and even imports many of its crucial elements directly from Greece.
Serving a menu of classic Greek to modern diners, each item has a modern twist to offer a healthier, more wholesome alternative to what most think of as “take-out”. Customers can indulge without the guilt on delicious hot sandwich-style wraps such as souvlaki, which is available with a range of fillings, including marinated chicken breast, grilled and marinated pork loin, jumbo shrimp, or marinated tofu as a vegan option.
Voted 2021 Small Business Of The Year at Hamden Regional Chamber of Commerce’s Chamber Choice Awards, Freskos continues to grow and expand its offerings regularly, and as of 2022 now serves beer and wine for customers to enjoy alongside their authentic Greek dessert choices. The restaurant also serves famous Greek iced coffee frappes, and authentic finely ground Greek coffee, which can be taken “Sketo”, with no sugar, “Metrio”, with medium sugar, or “Glyko” for those with a sweet preference.
The restaurant’s decadent dessert menu continues to expand, too, including popular items such as karithopita walnut cake, rice pudding, traditional galaktoboureko and kourabiethes, favorites such as baklava and greek yogurt, and now orange cake and baklava cheesecake.
